How Many Sessions Does A Hair Transplant Take

The number of sessions required for a hair transplant can vary depending on several factors, including the extent of hair loss, the type of hair transplant procedure being used, and the goals of the patient.

There are two main types of hair transplant procedures…

  1. FUT (Strip Method) –  A strip of hair-bearing skin is surgically removed from the donor area (usually the back or sides of the scalp), and then the individual hair follicles are dissected from this strip and transplanted into the bald or thinning areas. This can be done in a single session for moderate hair loss cases, but for more extensive hair loss, multiple sessions may be required to achieve the desired results.
  2. FUE (Individual Hair Follicle Extraction) – Involves the extraction of individual hair follicles from the donor area without the need for a strip of skin. These follicles are then transplanted into the recipient area. FUE allows for smaller sessions and can be spread out over multiple sessions depending on the patient’s needs and donor hair availability. The number of sessions required will depend on the extent of hair loss and the desired density.

The number of grafts or follicles needed to achieve the desired result is a significant factor in determining the number of sessions. A typical session may involve transplanting several hundred to a few thousand grafts, depending on the patient’s goals and the surgeon’s recommendations.

Consult with a qualified hair transplant specialist who can assess your specific situation, discuss your goals, and create a personalized treatment plan. They will be able to provide a more accurate estimate of the number of sessions required for your specific case. Keep in mind that hair transplant results may not be fully visible until several months after the procedure, as it takes time for transplanted hair to grow and mature.
