Does Transplanted Hair Turn Gray?

Does Transplanted Hair Turn Gray

Yes, transplanted hair can turn gray over time, just like natural hair. The color of hair is determined by the melanin pigment produced by melanocytes in the hair follicles. As people age, the melanocytes in their hair follicles may become less active, leading to a decrease in melanin production and the gradual graying of hair.

Hair transplant procedures involve taking hair follicles from one part of the body (usually the back or sides of the scalp, where hair is typically more resistant to the effects of male pattern baldness) and transplanting them to areas of thinning or balding. The transplanted hair will retain its original characteristics, including its potential to turn gray as the person ages.

Iwf the hair taken from the donor area was already gray or had the potential to turn gray, the transplanted hair would exhibit the same graying process over time. Hair transplant surgery itself does not prevent or alter the natural graying process of hair.
